How did you hear about Visions for Children e.V.?

I was made aware of Visions for Children e.V. by someone from my Fashion Africa Now network. When I heard about it, I immediately liked the approach to development cooperation.

What made you decide to support a small association like us?

Well, actually my mother should have become an ambassador, unfortunately she passed away unexpectedly. My mother was a teacher, author and wrote a book about Ugandan children’s fairy tales and gave readings in Hamburg and ran a small association for Uganda herself. Her commitment was to children; it was always important to her to give children access to education. I felt attracted to the Visions for Children e.V. concept and decided to support the organisation. I also found the connection to Afghanistan very interesting and that the chairwoman is a woman of color.

Why do you think it is important to be socially involved?

It is important to be socially involved because only together can we create a society in which all people have equal rights and have the same access. It is time for the imbalances in our injustice system to be made visible from BIPoC perspectives. We also need solutions that help people in conflicts and crises in the long term and not just in the short term. There needs to be a clear understanding that our actions in the global north have immense effects in the global south.

What does education mean to you?

Education means leading a self-determined life and therefore all people should have access to education.

What used to be your favorite subject at school?

My favorite subjects were history and geography.

What is the most valuable thing you have learned and taken with you from your school days?

I think the most valuable thing is that different authentic perspectives and knowledge production are necessary for education to take place successfully.
