Emergency humanitarian aid for earthquake survivors in Turkey and Syria

Turkey and Syria
Project start: 2023

Completed

Target achieved:
40.700 €

Update on the use of your donations

Thanks to your numerous donations, we were able to raise over €40,000 for the survivors of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. Over the past few weeks, we have been in constant contact with local organizations to ensure that your donations have the greatest possible impact. In the first days and weeks after the earthquake, there was a shortage of everything: food, blankets, hygiene articles and medical aid.

In the meantime, the need for essential relief supplies has largely been met. The people now need medium and long-term accommodation as well as access to sanitary facilities and clean water. The donations will therefore go to two organizations that are building homes for earthquake survivors in Turkey and Syria (€20,000 each, €700 will go towards administrative costs and international bank and transfer fees).

Container apartments in Turkey

Half of the donations will go to INFAK, a German association that has been providing support in the affected regions of Turkey since the earthquake. Since March, the association has been working on the construction of an emergency shelter settlement with 45 container apartments. Thanks to your donations, 4 of these apartments have already been financed and will soon be ready for occupancy.

Apartments in northern Syria

The other half of the donations will go to Molham, a Syrian NGO that has been working since 2012 to provide basic necessities such as food, shelter and medicine for Syrians in need. The organization will start building 2,000 homes for earthquake survivors in June, 4 of which have already been financed by your donations.

A big thank you to everyone for their support and donations!
On the morning of February 6, a 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck the border area between Turkey and Syria, followed by another 7.5-magnitude earthquake on the same day. According to the latest figures, more than 10,000 people have already died and 49,000 others are injured. Survivors are still being sought.

The affected region is home to millions of refugees from Syria, who were already living in catastrophic conditions before the earthquake. In addition, temperatures are currently around freezing point and there is snow in many regions. Aftershocks shake the region again and again. Survivors are therefore exposed to the cold outdoors; their homes have been destroyed or are in danger of collapsing.

DONATE NOW FOR THE SURVIVORS!

Help is urgently needed on the ground: Thousands of buildings collapsed and important infrastructure, such as hospitals, was also destroyed. In addition to medical aid, relief supplies such as food and blankets are also needed.

Even though we are not normally active in the region, our network with Visions for Children e.V. gives us the opportunity to provide emergency humanitarian aid. We are currently in constant contact with local organizations to find out what they need in order to use your donations as quickly as possible with the greatest possible impact.

Of course, we will keep you up to date here on how exactly the donations can be used locally.

Time is running out – quick and uncomplicated help for those affected saves lives now. Let’s stand by the survivors together!
