Hungerfree in Ramadan – food packages for children with disabilities and orphans in Afghanistan

Herat, Afghanistan
Project start: 2025

Your donation gives children in Afghanistan access to urgently needed food!

Ramadan is the holy month of Islam – one of the five pillars of faith and a time of special spirituality. In addition to fasting from sunrise to sunset, charity and donations are also among the central duties of this time. Muslims are encouraged to support and give food to people in need – an act that is considered particularly blessed.

The fasting month of Ramadan is a time of reflection, sharing and solidarity. While many are breaking their fast with family and friends, there are millions of people who don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Especially in crisis areas like Afghanistan, families suffer from extreme hunger and financial poverty.

People with disabilities are among the most disadvantaged groups in Afghan society. They often lack access to education, medical care and social support. Many families of children with special needs face enormous financial challenges as they must cover additional expenses for medical treatments or supplies.

Our Ramadan emergency aid 2025 therefore supports children with visual and hearing impairments and their families as well as orphans in Herat. By distributing food packages, around 900 people in need can spend the holy month of Ramadan with the dignity and security of a daily meal.

Your support shows: you are not forgotten; we are still by your side!

Humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan particularly endangers children

According to the United Nations, 64% of Afghanistan’s population lives in financial poverty. 14 million Afghans are acutely suffering from hunger – by March 2025, around 3.1 million of them will be so severely affected by famine that their lives will be in danger.

The hunger crisis is also putting the lives of millions of children at risk: According to nutrition experts, almost 3.5 million children in Afghanistan aged up to 5 years will suffer from acute malnutrition by May 2025.

Crises and natural disasters exacerbate the situation

Since the Taliban came back to power in 2021, the situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated drastically. The economic crisis, restrictions on women’s rights and natural disasters such as droughts and floods are exacerbating the hardship. Families who are already fighting for their survival and vulnerable groups such as children and people with disabilities are particularly affected.

Our humanitarian emergency aid therefore aims to mitigate hunger and health risks and to offer families a sign of solidarity during the holy month of Ramadan.

Donate now and provide a safe meal for children with disabilities and their families in Ramadan!
